по поводу периодически возникающего переводческого оффтопа - лирическое отступление: коллеги, как думаете, почему в ГП запрещается обсуждать в темах худ. ценность, а в Литературе не рекомендуется обсуждать, как переводить? да-да, для того, чтобы обсуждение несло практическую пользу переводчикам. поиск форумный несовершенен, и для проверки спорных моментов логично идти в переводческий раздел, где найти нужное будет сложнее, если те же термины утонут в дискуссиях о сюжете. то же справедливо и для тех, кто в Лит-ре ищет инфу о книге, а упирается в простыни рассуждений о переводе. i Уведомление: так что опять перенесла несколько сообщений <-> в ГП. правила придуманы не просто так.

Кайм в своем блоге уточняет грядущие прожекты: "Feat of Iron" (новелла в "Примархах") - is about Ferrus Manus of the Iron Hands and really delves into his psyche and how he sees himself ranked up against the other primarchs. It runs concurrently with the storyline of Promethean Sun but is in no way dependent on that story. There some pretty f*!king awesome revelations in it about Ferrus Manus and a hint about what’s to come in the next phase of the Heresy storyline too. "Perfection" (аудиодрама) - about a warband of the Emperor’s Children called the Incarnadine Host. It’s a bit different as it’s kind of a battlefield mystery story but with lots of extremely visceral action, and a killer twist. "Tome of Fire" (антология Саламандр) - an anthology of all my short stories for the Salamanders. It also includes the audio drama Fireborn and will contain a brand new novella (which is where the work comes from). Rare gems such as The Burning will also be in there (that was a chapbook story from BLL 2009 – I think) and I might see if Emperor’s Deliverance will fit in too (it’s more focused on Marines Malevolent but does have a rather cool cameo by Tu’Shan). "Scorched Earth" (новелла, Ересь) - won’t be limited edition but will be a forerunner to a later novel I have in the works. It’s set in the aftermath of Isstvan V and features two Salamander characters searching for Vulkan’s body amongst the ruins and devastation. Expect a cameo from one of the Iron Hands in ‘Feat of Iron’ too… Oh, and the cover by Neil Roberts is absolutely stunning. Very moody and something rather different for the Horus Heresy, not really seen before.

уточнение по хронологии Варрена от Сваллоу: A lot of listeners who heard Legion of One asked questions about Varren's appearance in the audio - I deliberately left his backstory unexplained, and the original intention was to explore his escape from the chaos of the dropsite massacre in a short story for one of the Horus Heresy anthologies. But after discussing it with editor Christian Dunn, we decided that it would make a cool audio drama, so Sword of Truth will be the first two-disc Horus Heresy audio, set chronologically between the events of the first and second Nathaniel Garro stories Oath of Moment and Legion of One.

для уточнения авторского видения - что сам Торп ответил на вопросы "да как ты мог???": Please also bear in mind that while a Zahariel/ Nemiel showdown seemed on the cards, narrative determinism doesn't always win through. Sometimes it is better to confound expectation than pander to it. If a character like Nemiel (with all the potent story arc attached) can be despatched easily, is any character sacrosanct? Think about that the next time you are reading about your favourite HH character!

пока стояла сегодня в пробке, прослушала Labyrinth of Sorrows - того же Манна и тоже про Гвардию Воронов (не знаю, Вороны те же или нет, на Гелион рейне заснула, имена стерлись напрочь). сюжет прост, хотя и двухлинеен, так что спойлеры будут краткими: "ходьба укрепляет организм" Медные Минотавры увязли в нурглитском конфликте, который уже съел несколько планет и теперь доедает мир-гробницу Кашарат. эпизод войны, о котором будет рассказано, начинается с того, что отряд Минотавров ищет некий объект, который поможет им выиграть эту войну. ориентируясь на сигнал маяка (чьего? спрашивают себя быки), они приходят ко входу в лабиринт, где, очевидно, находится этот объект. вокруг маяка - гора трупов, при жизни испорченных болячками, а потом доведенных до смертельного расчленения (кем? спрашивают себя быки). пока Минотавры задаются вопросами, повествование раскрывает тайну сразу: им помогает такой же отряд из пятерки ГВ. помогают потому, что у ордена долг перед БМ - те помогли им довести осаду до конца в одной из прошлых кампаний. зная, что быки умеют только бить в лоб и устраивать фронтальные атаки, Вороны заранее очищают им путь, т.к. иначе они бы никогда не добрались до цели, пытаясь убить то, что уже мертво и разбудив всех зомби своим топотом. именно Вороны, выйдя из тени, поставили маяк, именно они расчищают коридоры лабиринта, скрываясь при этом от пары нурглитских дронов - которых Быки предсказуемо расстреливают, при этом теряя одного из своих, когда полуорганическое тело дрона взрывается при выстреле и обрызгивает стрелявшего всякими разъедающими веществами. в сердце лабиринта Вороны отступают, оставляя главный зал - цель БМ - им для собственного разбирательства, все-таки это же их война и их миссия. в закрытом зале обнаруживается искомый объект - библиарий БМ, которого захватили живым и теперь обмазывают всяким невкусным, чтобы подготовить к допросу псайкерами Гвардии Смерти. далее следует финальное противостояние БМ с тремя ГС, при этом они теряют еще одного, но библиария спасают - секреты он не разгласил, что уже хорошо, а теперь, мб, изменится и ход войны. вернувшись на поверхность, БМ находят сувенир - вороний череп, - подвешенный на цепочке у люка их корабля. уже на середине пути по лабиринту, видя мертвых врагов там, где им только предстояло пройти, они заподозрили, что третья сила в конфликте - на их стороне. теперь они точно знают, кто это был. ГВ вернула свой долг так, как умеет лучше всего, - проведя невидимую операцию. сорри, имен не помню вообще, переслушивать вряд ли буду. в целом впечатление хорошее, но на 1 раз. звуковое оформление раздражает двумя вещами: акцентом Минотавров (мутковское "лет ми спик фром май харт") и озвучкой шагов. топот маленьких ножек :rolleyes: ну не могут бугаи в павер-арморе в таком темпе цокать =)

The assembled text is actually documentary evidence for a two part investigation being conducted by the Imperium to consider the canonisation of Macharius as an Imperial Saint and the prosecution of High Inquisitor Drake for heresy and treason. The piece of first person testimony we are reading is actually an autobiographical fragment set down by an Imperial Guard Sergeant by the name of Leo Lemuel who, as becomes clear from his testimony as we read, knew both Macharius and Drake. Leo’s is not the only narrative in the book. There are two conjoined storylines from the point of view of Drake, one consisting of his reports to the Imperium, and the other being a very different set of extracts from his personal journal that make it clear that Drake is a man with his own agenda quite different from that presented in his official reports. Rounding out the book are other pieces of corroborative evidence such as casualty lists and other official documentation. Obviously the book is a novel. It tells a story and I hope an exciting one, but there is another implied structure here. All of this data is being assembled by someone, and with a very specific purposes in mind. The reader is being placed in the position not only of reading the narrative but of scanning the Imperial reports and reading between their lines. This is a deployment of multiple unreliable narrators as they are known in the trade. The narrative is made doubly ambiguous because we know that a case for prosecution is being presented here within the assembled documents. I hope also it allows for the presentation of multiple, partially contradictory points of view of Macharius and adds an air of historical realism to the whole proceeding. In Book Two this is going to be developed. There will be more reports from eye-witnesses including Leo and Drake but also some from the point of view of an Imperial Assassin, a very dangerous woman called, perhaps, Anna, who we first encountered in Angel of Fire. The other point of view is that of an as yet un-named Dark Eldar. This is quite a rare thing to tackle in the 40K universe. When I started working on the Black Library fiction line many, many years ago there was an actual proscription against telling stories from the point of view of non-human characters because they were simply too alien to be handled realistically. I plan on getting round this in Fist of Demetrius by the use of a simple device which fits into the established background of the series. What we will be seeing are more Imperial records, this time transcriptions from Dark Eldar memory crystals by an Imperial Psyker who has since gone mad. We will get the Dark Eldar point of view as mediated through the mind of a loyal Imperial citizen. I like this idea and I think it is something that the book really needs since the Dark Eldar provide the main opposition in the book and I would at least like to try and show their side of things. Obviously all of this is will require precise plotting and a lot of thought. The case for the prosecution continues to unfold as the story does.
