  2. Day 3 of Advent 2016 A Horus Heresy short story When the traitorous allies of Horus and Kelbor-Hal seized Mars, the visionary adept Arkhan Land became a man marked for death. As his world crumbles around him, whom can he trust? READ IT BECAUSE Finally, for the first time ever, you'll see the story behind one of the most famous names in the Imperium – Arkhan Land, whose name is on some of the Imperium's most powerful and revered weapons. Oh, and the events of this story tie in to 'The Master of Mankind'… THE STORY When the traitorous allies of Horus and Kelbor-Hal seized Mars, they sent elite hunters to apprehend key targets and ensure that any loyal resistance would fail. One such target was the legendary technoarchaeologist Arkhan Land, the discoverer of many lost treasures and curiosities from mankind's Golden Age - and the Imperial Fists cannot allow such a valuable mind to fall into the hands of the enemy. Does Land have good reason to fear his apparent saviours? Written by Aaron Demsbki-Bowden
  6. Day 2 of Advent 2016 An Inquisition short story Mylasa Yaygus is an enigma, her origins a mystery even to her master, the Inquisitor Covenant. She is the Maiden of the Dream, a psychic torturer and manipulator of consummate skill, but amongst her many lives and histories is there a mote of truth that reveals who she really is? READ IT BECAUSE One of John French's strengths is crafting intricate mysteries with strong characters at their core, and this is another such tale of a powerful psyker who may be her master's most useful ally or most dangerous foe. THE STORY Mylasa Yaygus is an enigma, her origins a mystery even to her master, Covenant. Of all of the inquisitor's acolytes, Mylasa is the least known and arguably the most dangerous. A powerful Primaris psyker, the truth about her past is as byzantine as her abilities. As Ilk, she is a hive-born wretch bound for the Black Ships, as Verrun, she is the daughter of a rich merchant clan... but if these are false memories, who really is Mylasa? She is the Maiden of the Dream, a psychic torturer and manipulator of consummate skill, and amongst her many lives and histories might there be a mote of truth that reveals who she really is? Written by John French

  8. Day 1 of Advent 2016 A Horus Heresy audio drama Escaping from ruined Calth, Oll Persson and his band of refugees are trapped on a dark, forgotten world. But the enemy draws near, and immortality may not be enough to survive... READ IT BECAUSE It's the return of Oll Persson in a tale following the events of 'Know No Fear' and 'Unmarked' which drives the mysterious Perpetual towards his ultimate destiny… THE STORY Oll Persson stands apart from the rest of mankind. He is one of the old ones, one of the undying. One of the Perpetuals. Now, fleeing from the ruins of Calth with his band of fellow refugees, the vagaries of the warp have brought him through the backways of time and space to a city that rests on the edge of oblivion... and no further. The path has ended abruptly, and Oll's enemies are finally closing in. Will his immortality be enough to save him this time? Written by Dan Abnett. Running time 27 minutes. Performed by Gareth Armstrong, John Banks, Ian Brooker, Cliff Chapman, Steve Conlin, Penelope Rawlins, Saul Reichlin and Luis Soto.
From the warp they come and with the power of the warp they can be banished again.
  18. Marcus Hulme: Is the December date for Inferno accurate? The impression FW gave me at the Open Day was that it would first be available at the Weekender in February. Would be great to know if I should save my pennies! White Dwarf: Correct at the time of print, but we hear they've crammed so much amazing stuff into it that it might be a little later than that now.
Imperial Webway is bolted onto an Eldar nexus city. The Eldar all ran away when the Imperials turned up. The ruined area beyond it up toward the breach is called Magnus' Folly. The Emp sits on the throne holding a psychic shield over the whole Imperial Webway, if he were to get off it would collapse immediately. He issues orders by summoning a Custode Tribune into his memories. Mal and Dorn are left to their own devices above, Emps isn't impressed they are losing the war. The Custode Tribune is the only one left, the other 2 are dead, they were the 3 senior guys under Valdor. The Imperials are losing the Webway War as well; not just daemons are attacking them now, the World Eaters and Legio Audax have also somehow got inside. The Emperor orders that the Webway army gets reinforced; there is literally no-one left in the Sol system to send except a Knight House that were locked up for briefly being traitors before learning the truth, the last Mechanicum troops and a lone Blood Angel cripple. Arkhan Land decides to go along as well because he's baller The first memory the Emperor shares is of his childhood. In some mud-hut shithole in ancient middle east (like really [черт]ing ancient, pre-Hittite) his job was to clean up corpses for burial by moulding mud to their bodies to make them look whole. He was good at it due to psychic powers. When he gets given his father's skull to fix up he is able to discern how his father died; struck in the head by his uncle, murdered. He goes to his uncle and kills him by stopping his heart. The Fists are all deployed in the system fighting the Solar War. Dorn says he will send some down but Valdor points out he will be stripping men from the walls and there's only around 3 or 4 companies of Fists actually on the planet. The Emps is utterly devoted to ensuring humanity survives and his plan would have totally worked if it weren't for Horus and Magnus [черт]ing it all up, he's dedicated his entire existence to it and has no interest in glory, worship, personal anything and rejects people saying he's arrogant and power hungry completely, everything, everything goes to the plan and he has no time for any bullshit. He does indeed manipulate the primarchs and people in general to this end but tries to be nice about it, however the ends would have justifed the means Drach'nyen is a daemon born at the moment of the first murder. He/It seems to be intent on confronting the Emperor The other memories are the Emps and Land examining Angron to see if they can get the Nails out, they can't without killing him, Emps decides that even though the Twelfth has reduced lifespan and ruined tactical acumen as compared to his design, he could still be of use so returns him to his legion instead of offing him we also see Ullanor and the Emp admitting he did the Triumph and all the Imperial pomp and shit because he knows the Primarchs and the people need that kind of emotional manipulation He also explains why he can't guide everyone perfectly by showing the Custode a memory of standing at the base of a cliff - the future is the top, you can see it; climb the cliff. The Custode loses his grip on a rock that looked solid but wasn't and falls. Yes, the Emperor says. When asked why he lets the Primarchs, especially the Sixteenth, call him father, he basically says that he's Gieseppo to Horus' Pinnochio. The Black Ships are ordered to switch from collecting people for Astropath etc training to simple industrial hoovering up of all psykers The Fire Wasps are present, as are Custodes, Sisters and everything in the Mechanicum army lists The Blood Angel is from the Crusader Host, he didn't get picked for any combat roles because he lost his arms in battle and augmetics won't take to him without malfunctioning, so he's combat ineffective. He's titled Bringer of Sorrow which is rad but hasn't been explained yet The loyalist Mechanicum are super salty about Mars being in traitor hands and increasingly only support the Emperor because without him they can't get back to Mars A good chunk of the book describes the journey from the palace down to the Webway gate, it's really well written, the Eternity Gate is awesome etc. It becomes obvious that this road was meant to be the way humanity travelled to the stars once that whole pesky spaceship shit was done away with; what becomes the Throne Room was really meant to be the Departure Lounge It's pretty much confirmed the Custodes exterminated the Thunder Warriors. One of them wonders if they were to do the same to the Astartes. There are 300 Custodes early in Unification, who are the Emperor's personal guard, they get expanded to 10,000 later (and are called The Ten Thousand amongst themselves and by the E. The Emperor seems actually honestly quite attached to the Custodians, seeing each of them as unique works of art he's proud of creating. The first Custodian to 'die', the Emperor is having none of it and has him personally made into a Dreadnought (the first one?) Of course this feeling/info is stuff only communicated through him talking with the Tribune, so it could be part of his manipulations The Imperials lose. The Mechanicum contingent (except the Titans) betray them and split off to find the Webway route to Mars. They all get killed in various hilarious ways. The Sisters of Silence plug a thousand psykers from the Black Ships into the Golden Throne, giving it enough battery power for the Emperor to get off. He goes to rescue everyone that's retreating back to the palace Turns out he can instantaneously teleport in combat, or at least do something that has the same effect. Literally dudes swinging swords at him and he's not there anymore and *teleports behind you* now his sword is in your back He also has a super saiyan attack where he swings his sword and fire comes out in a wave, and in the fire are like, smoke-ghosts of the Imperial dead who form just long enough to [черт] up the daemons and then dissipate. These smoke ghosts include Custodians, dreadnoughts and a certain dead primarch. It's more like a special effect to his fire attack than Aragorn's army of the dead, but it's pretty metal So a thing happens that I'm putting in a separate spoiler and the Imperials all pull back to the palace. The Emperor, *very* regretfully, seals the gate. That's it, Imperial Webway is DONE. In a coda, the Emperor basically admits to a dude that his plan is capital F [черт]ed and humanity is essentially doomed and there's nothing he or the Imperium can do except hold it off for as long as possible Drach'nyen duels the Emp and wins, puts his claws right through him. Emp teleports away next to the Custodian Tribune who was the guy who learned all the Emp's secrets throughout the book. Drach comes in for the finisher, forming into a familiar sword shape. The Emp somehow transfers the blow into the Custodian, but not as a wound, he essentially shunts Drach'nyen into the Custodian For whatever reason - sheer willpower is mentioned but it's fairly obv the Emp has done something to the Custodian previously or they're all designed like it - Drach can't overpower and possess the dude like he has about a half dozen other people in the book. He's trapped within the Custodian. The Emperor gives the Custodian "the last order he will ever receive: Run." The Custodian takes off at a sprint into the mist of the Webway, all alone, Drach'nyen's jailer, as the Emperor sadly returns to the palace and ultimately shuts down the gateway The Custodians are talking about how they haven't heard anything from Aquillon when Magnus bursts through The Mechanicum contingent (except the Titans) betray them and split off to find the Webway route to Mars Land doesn't leave, he's baller incarnate. Dude rides around in a grav land raider with quad volkite cannons on a top ball turret and has a pet cyber monkey, he's basically Drebin from MGS The Mechanicum in the webway leave, but there's still the ones on the surface. they have a plausible deniability for when they get bitched out about the betrayal (which does not happen in this book) Blood Angel dude who is called Zephon, gets a jury-rig to his arms from Land and is able to fight in the last battle, where he pulls off a pivotal strike (he has a jump pack). He survives.
