Illuminations

To GWs Manchester and Liverpool, I want to belatedly record what a fun time I had at both of your stores. Thank you for throwing on the events at such short notice, and huge thanks to the readers and acolytes who turned out in force to meet with me. For the record, my trip to Blackpool was as sublime as last year: Lily acquitted herself splendidly in the formation teams of the ballroom, and I drew ever closer to the core of an idea that Blackpool is the setting for the most significant and troubling novel of my career.

Back home, I am working hard to produce Marvel’s Cosmic scripts on a week by week basis, while I finish up the slaughterhouse that is Blood Pact. Every time I finish a chapter, I feel I need to be hosed down. It’s wet work. I’m not sure who’s going to survive on either side. Novels like this scare me. The characters are in charge.

In the meantime, I got up at 6am and drove to Nottingham, yesterday, and sat in Bugman’s with Nick Kyme and the mighty Graham McNeill. When it comes to Graham McNeill, I think it’s obligatory for everyone to preface his name with an italic “mighty”. Graham is one of the few creatives I’ve had the pleasure of coming into contact with who can match my ideas and raise me. Not only did we thrash out some amazing things for Prospero Burns/Thousand Sons, but we came up with a transcendent idea for what we are all calling “The Dark Ages” of the Horus Heresy. This was so cool, it simply took our mutual breath away.

Of course, you’re all going to have to just wait and see, and wait and see, even for Prospero Burns. I am Space Wolves up the YingYang. There are two things I can promise you: You have never seen Space Wolves like this, and, these will be the mothers and fathers of all Space Wolves. Nik’s scared: she doesn’t get Space Wolves, and she doesn’t get what all the fuss is about. It’s going to get nasty, and it may never get nice again.

It’s getting windy here, and the rain has started. I’ve been seeing the Hussar a lot these last few weeks: in the summer house, and in the kitchen, in the corner of my eye. The fact that we’ve bought a porcelain effigy of him at an antiques fair, doesn’t seem to have slowed him down. I sometimes hear his footsteps, his breathing, his keys dropping onto the floor. I think I am better off with him than without him.

To conclude this evening, a joke:

Last night I dreamt I was in the middle of the Lord of the Rings. When I woke up, Nik said, “You were Tolkien in your sleep, again.”

Вот что интересно - на предыдущем постере у спейсмарина деревянный щит. К чему бы это?

к тому чт ов центре в монтирован небольшой генератор силового поля... а дерево.. ну это его родовой щит - он ему нравиться ;)

Кстати, A Thousand Sons пишет Макнил, со стороны сынков, там типа будет другой взгляд, и сынки, возможно, пафосно сделают пару засад волкам.

...As I mentioned earlier, I’m nearly finished Empire and if I don’t get it finished by the end of the week, then it’ll certainly get done in the early throes of next week. Then, with a smaller (kind of) project inbetween, I’ll be embarking upon A Thousand Sons, my next Horus Heresy project. Dan and I have had some initial discussions about this, and we’re very excited about this project, as I think we have some fantastic ideas that are going to melt your head in the best tradition of Horus Heresy books. I have a notebook that’s bursting with scribbled notes, which, once Empire is done, I’m going to expand and develop into a treatment I can bash around with Dan. Will let you know how that goes...

...Xisor: Glad you’re looking forward to some more Ultramarines goodness, and the WoU x 10 idea is currently percolating away in my mental back burner in a nice, explosive way. You’ll need to wait to next year to see how it turns out though. But you will get to meet lots of bigwigs in the Chapter, that’s for sure. And A Thousand Sons/Prospero Burns is going to be great…we’ve got some awesome ideas to play with, and it won’t disappoint. The Last Church was a story I really wanted to write to give some balance to the anthology, and it seems to be one that people have really responded to, which is just great.

...Beyond Empire, there’s a few interesting morsels in the distance - potentially another Starcraft novel with Blizzard - and my upcoming collaboration with Dan Abnett on our Prospero duology. You’ll have seen Dan’s book, ‘Prospero Burns’ on the Black Library site, but if you haven’t already heard, mine is to be called ‘A Thousand Sons’, and will focus primarily on the Legion of Magnus. It’s still early days, but the idea we’ve come up with is that each book should stand on its own merits and be enjoyable without needing the other to fulfil its narrative. However, the full scope of the story should only be really appreciated by reading them both (think of the ending to Back to the Future 2…and I promise I’ll explain that if you talk to me in person :-)). It’s going to be a complex project, but one that we have some fantastic ideas to develop and some fascinating revelations to play with. These novels will have all manner of ramifications, while still maintaining the existing mythos – which is going to get the conspiracy theorists scratching their heads – as if Mechanicum didn’t do that enough! All I’ll say is that everything you think you know about the razing of Prospero is simultaneously right and wrong. Depending on your point of view...

Да-а, волчары у папы Лемана знатные, такие схарчат космодеса и не поперхнутся. :D . Я уже говорил: ЛР на постере просто "отрыв башки", серьезный и знатный мужик. Художнику огромный плюс.
